The thirty story, 400 ft. high, 437,500 sq. ft., office building was constructed in 1969 for Owens Corning to serve as its headquarters. Designed by architects Harrison & Abromovitz, the international style building, sheathed in black glass was one of the first buildings to incorporate an open floor design.

The structure sits on the site formerly occupied by the Fort Meigs Hotel, which was demolished to make way for its construction. The 1.64 ac. property also includes a multi level 519 space parking garage. At one time there was an upscale restaurant located on the top floor known as "Top Of The Tower".

In 1996, Owens Corning relocated their offices to their new campus-like headquarters built on the Middle Grounds. The Fiberglas Tower has been unoccupied from that time to the present and has suffered water and mold damage. The present owner, Eyde Company of Lansing, Michigan is in the initial stages of a $44 million renovation of the building to house a mix of uses including a hotel, apartments and a restaurant.
